About 19,250 plastic chairs and tables have been procured and are being distributed to public primary and junior secondary schools across the 18 local government areas of the state.
Chairman of the Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Board, Sen Stephen Odey, who began distribution of the learning aides to schools yesterday disclosed the figure to LEADERSHIP Weekend shortly after the flag-off of the exercise in Calabar.
He said the items would help in the improvement of learning which is difficult under a harsh atmosphere.
The chairs and tables’ distribution are under the 2022 UBEC/SUBEB matching grant and 2012-2015 excess fund intervention meant to benefit schools in Cross River South senatorial district.
Odey hailed the state governor, Ben Ayade, who he said is ready to go the extra mile to ensure that education thrives in the state.
He commended the state governor for being consistent in the provision of resources for infrastructure facilities to encourage learning in schools.
Odey stated that education which serves as a life-wire to the society cannot be toyed with, charging students and teachers to complement the governor’s efforts by giving protection to the classroom facilities against theft and vandalism in the interest of the pupils.
“We encourage everyone residing in the state that once the tables and chairs get to your community school, please ensure that they are guarded jealously.
“I urge you all to please see these items as your personal property; scare away hoodlums who might come to steal the learning items,” he said.
