Former Senate spokesman, Dayo Adeyeye has declared the people nursing interim government will not succeed, adding that such cannot happen in Nigeria.
Adeyeye who is the national chairman of the South West Agenda for Tinubu (SWAGA) said Nigeria already has a president-elect and advised those calling for an interim government to kill the thought . He commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the conduct of the 2023 presidential election, adding that the election is the best in the history of Nigeria.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Adeyeye said the 2023 presidential elections should bring unity to Nigeria since the candidates were voted in regions different from where they came from.
“Interim Government will not happen in this country. The results have been declared; we have a president elect. Anything you said about an interim government you are saying that Nigeria should not exist.
“The election should bring unity in the country because a southerner won in Zamfara and other northern states.
“A candidate from the South East won in Lagos. Atiku won in Osun. Obi won in Plateau. Despite the Muslim-muslim ticket, we were able to bury such a and elect a leader,” Adeyeye said.
“Enough is enough. Election is over in one month; we have to prepare a transition government and the government coming will move Nigeria to another level.
INEC did their best and I want to praise Mahmood Yakubu of INEC for what he did,” Adeyeye said.
“This election is the best in the history of Nigeria and since the return of democracy in 1999. We have just had the best election in the history of Nigeria. I’ve been contesting elections in this country since 1999 and each time I am not contesting, I am always an active participant and the election is free and fair.
“INEC, I want to recommend you for a job weldon. I want to commend the lawmakers for working on the electoral act which helped INEC to deploy technology that reduces rigging.
“Before, you could carry ballot boxes of a local government and fill it in one leader’s house. The one conducted by Obasanjo in 2007 was the worst, even Yar’Adua had to apologize. Since then, Nigeria has been moving out of the era of impunity.
“The deployment of card readers helped. We are now having a gradual decline in election malpractices. If you see people trying to do voter suppression, you can’t blame that on INEC. Put the blame on politicians who don’t want to abide by the rules of the game,” Adeyeye said.
“INEC did well. I am surprised people are now talking about manipulation because results were not uploaded in real time. But they have no proof that the results were manipulated. Every agent was given copies. The same copies of the results are taken to the collation center, to local government and the state collation center,” Adeyeye added.
According to Adeyeye, to show that the election was never manipulated, added that there was a lot of upset.
“Over 20 governors lost their states during the presidential election. Governors who wanted to come to the Senate also lost out. It is getting to a time where politicians cannot take the electorate for granted,” Adeyeye added.
