Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) said it has repaired some transformers and put them “back into circuit” to improve power supply in Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states.

The fixing of the equipment was disclosed to the press in Kano by the company’s chief commercial officer, Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf, who said in the next three weeks, KEDCO would repair at least 40 transformers to boost power supply in the three states. Yusuf said the outages being experienced in Kano was due to the collapse of the national grid.

The management of KEDCO also appealed to the general public in its franchise locations of Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states to exercise patience as the company was working hard to change the situation.

On the problem bedevilling KEDCO, Yusuf said the distribution company only supplies what is given to it by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

He said KEDCO was aware of the inconveniences faced by their customers in the three states resulting from a drop in power supply causing serial outage especially during the current Ramadan fasting.

“Kano State is entitled to 8 percent of total power generated by the Gencos. Kano requires about 800mw to 1000mw for her to have a smooth and uninterrupted power supply in the state.

“However, only 200mw to 250mw has been supplied for distribution in the state. Unfortunately, due to the technical situation on ground, only about 180mw and below is available for distribution in the state,” he stated.

Yusuf said there are other problems the interim management team of the company has inherited from the immediate past leadership that it is working to reduce to the barest minimum.
