Due to persisting queues at Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) and huge crowd in banking halls as well as difficulties faced by customers in Cross River State, the Bankers’ Committee and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) took to the streets of Calabar to sensitise and encourage Nigerians to “go cashless” to ensure ease of financial transactions.

Speaking in an interactive, CBN assistant director, Payment System Management Department, Chika Ugwueze, said the bank electronic platforms remain the only option as far as monetary transactions are concerned.

“We are telling our people of the alternative electronic payment platforms that are available, as alternatives for cash usage in Nigeria.

“The CBN initiated the e-Naira platform as an alternative to cash. It is the digital form of the cash that is in your wallet. Every Nigerian is advised to download and use the e-Naira wallet as an alternative to cash.

“Though the e-Naira is not an alternative to your bank account, it is only an alternative to the cash in your wallet that offers improved security and efficiency,”Ugwueze stated.
