The lead pastor of the Glorious Destiny Family Church, Borokiri, Port Harcourt, Akeem Idoniboye, has said the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ dealt a deadly blow on the power of the grave.

Idoniboye stated this on Easter Sunday in a sermon titled: “Power over the grave” he gave at the church auditorium.

He said water baptism signifies the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, describing it as “the mystery of breaking premature death.”

Quoting Proverbs 30:15-16, the cleric said, “The grave could not hold him. Even inside the grave, he was still loved. The grave is never satisfied. It is always on the prowl looking for victims.

“He didn’t marry so that you can marry. He didn’t have a child so that you can have a child. He died prematurely at 33 so that you will not die premature.

“When Jesus died, he took hold of the power of death and the grave so that you will not die prematurely.

“The grave is the sponsor of death. It is the sponsor of anything smelling and colourless in your life. The grave is also a place of darkness.

“The grave is also a gate. When the grave calls, you don’t fulfill your years on earth. Christ dealt with the power of the grave and the reason he did that was to set us free. Death is one thing that puts fear.

“One of the manifold powers of God to conquer the power of the grave is water baptism. You died with him in baptism and resurrected with him. Death has no dominion over you just as it has no dominion over Christ.

“Christ dealt with the power of the grave. Water baptism is the mystery of breaking premature death,” he said.
