Abducted former Nasarawa deputy governor, Prof Onje Gye-Wado, has been released after the payment of N4 million ransom.

Family sources said the professor of law was released around the hills between Akwanga and Nasarawa Eggon local government areas of the state on Sunday night.

The former deputy governor was kidnapped last Thursday night in his country home, Rinza, Wamba in Wamba local government area of the state.

His abductors had initially demanded for N70 million as condition for his release but family members begged that the sum be reduced to N2 million.

Family members later raised the sum to N3.5 million but both parties arrived at four million which was paid before his release.

“They collected the ransom near Mada Hills Secondary School in Akwanga, with a N200 recharge card, then he was released near Angwan chiyawa, close to those hills between Akwanga and Nasarawa Eggon” a family source said.

It was gathered that Gye-Wado, was taken back to the Palace of the paramount ruler of Wamba, Oriye Rindre, Justice Lawal Musa Nagogo, upon his release.

A former NUJ chairman and also a former commissioner of information in the state, Mr Dogo Shamma, confirmed the release of Prof Gye-Wado, via a text he sent to NUJ state council WhatsApp handle around 10:06pm.

“To God be the Glory Prof. Onje, is finally released from the hands of kidnappers just now,” the message said.
