Global chairman of the International Peace Commission (IPC), Prince Amir Hassan, has confirmed the head of mission of the IPC, United Nations Global Compact, Ambassador Hussaini Haruna Coomassie, as the substantive head of the commission and IPC Ambassador in Nigeria.

In a letter dated March 31, 2023, from the IPC World Secretariat in the United States of America, issued by the hand and seal of the global chairman at the headquarters, Hassan said Coomassie brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his new role, having trained and worked extensively in the field of peace and conflict resolution.

Hassan said Coomassie is widely respected in Nigeria and beyond for his dedication and commitment to service in promoting peace and stability wherever he goes.

“In his new role, Dr. Coomassie will be responsible for leading the IPC’s efforts in Nigeria, working closely with government officials, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to promote peace, sustainable development, reconciliation, and conflict resolution.

He will also work to strengthen the IPC’s partnerships and collaborations in Nigeria and across the West African sub-region,” the letter stated.

Prince Hassan elaborated more on Coomassie’s appointment, saying: “I am delighted to welcome Dr. Coomassie to the IPC family. His extensive experience and deep commitment to peace and stability make him an ideal choice to lead our mission in Nigeria. I have no doubt that under his leadership, the IPC will make significant progress towards our shared goal of promoting peace, prosperity, and security in the region.”

In his response Coomassie thanked Hassan for finding him worthy to hold such a prestigious position as the head of mission, Nigeria of IPC.
