The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the formation of a special committee to conduct the primary election for aspirants ahead of the November governorship election in Kogi State.

The committee will be chaired by Ahmed Makarfi, a former governor of Kaduna State, and will consist of seven members. The announcement was made by Umar Bature, the National Organising Secretary of the PDP.

The PDP governorship primary election will take place today in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital. The committee will work according to the guidelines of the party’s constitution, the Electoral Guidelines for Party Primary Elections, and the 2022 Electoral Act. Bature urged the committee members to conduct themselves with exemplary conduct and strict adherence to rules and regulations during the assignment.

The nine aspirants who were recently screened for the exercise include Dino Melaye, a former senator and Yomi Awoniyi, a former deputy governor of the state. The ruling party in the state, APC, has already nominated Ahmed Usman-Ododo as its candidate for the November governorship election.

As the leader of the committee, Makarfi is expected to ensure that the members work together seamlessly to achieve their goals. With their focus on adherence to the party’s constitution and guidelines, the PDP is sure to conduct a successful primary election that will produce a strong candidate for the governorship race in Kogi State.
