INEC had on February 27, 2023 declared the Yobe South senatorial district’s election as inconclusive over cancellation of a polling unit at Manawaci in Fika local government area necessitated by over voting. The number of registered voters in the unit exceeded the margin between the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who scored 69,417 votes while that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored 68,800 votes.

Declaring the results in Potiskum, the returning officer of the senatorial district, Dr Abatcha Melemi of the Federal University, Gashua, said Bomoi emerged winner after scoring 69,596 votes to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Abubakar Halilu, who scored 6,885.

“My mandate in this exercise is just to declare the result and return the elected candidate for Yobe South Senatorial district.

“I hereby certify that I am the returning officer for the 2023 Yobe South Senatorial district election held on April 15, 2023.

“Bomoi Ibrahim Mohammed of the APC having satisfied the requirements of the law is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” he said.

Bomai has in a statement commended people for believing in him to continue representing them at the red chamber and extended a hand of fellowship to the other candidates of political parties who contested with him for the progress of the zone.

Yobe State governor, Hon Mai Mala Buni, has congratulated Bomoi on his success.

The governor issued the congratulatory message yesterday after the formal declaration of Senator Bomoi by (INEC).

Buni described the victory of the party as an additional value to the incoming APC national government.

“I am optimistic that the senator would always lend his support to legislation on policies and programmes of the federal government. We are also optimistic that the experienced lawmaker would bring his experience to bear and continue to work towards improving the lives of his constituents,” Buni said.

He urged the people of Zone B to continue supporting the lawmaker for more dividends of democracy.
