Officials and other stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State have rated the process of electing the gubernatorial candidate of the party at the weekend as peaceful and fair.

While assessing the conduct of the primary, Governor Yahaya Bello said the violence-free primary election across the state’s 239 wards was a clear indication that the “state is APC and APC is Kogi State.”

He said it was a general indication that the party flag bearer was widely accepted across the length and breadth of the state.

The governor said during the contest, there were 18 eminently qualified citizens of the state but only seven of them made it to the polls.

He said some of them withdrew or stepped down before the contest in the interest of cohesion and unity of the party and worked with the party to produce Hon Ododo Usman as the flag bearer.

The APC state chairman, Hon Abdullahi Bello, said the direct primary election which produced the governorship candidate was transparent and hitch-free.

Speaking with LEADERSHIP on the conduct of the primary election, the commissioner for information and communication, Kingsley Fanwo, said the process was peaceful, free and fair and that the party members came out massively to cast their votes.

He said, “We have more members but some couldn’t vote because they are not financial members and our constitution doesn’t give powers to non-financial members to vote.

I urge other states to learn from Kogi State where our leader and governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has made the party strong and indomitable in the state.”

Fanwo expressed the optimism that the party’s flag bearer would lead the party to a resounding victory on November 11, 2023.

Also, the chairperson of KONGONET, Pastor Roseline Alabi commended the APC Primary Election Committee for conducting an acceptable primary election.

She said, “Our members went round and to God be the glory, we did not experience any bad situation and there was no negative report. We can confidently adjudge the Kogi State All Progressives Congress governorship primary election as peaceful and satisfactory.”
