The youth wing of the Pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere has asked the acting leader of the group, Pa Ayo Adebanjo to immediately step down from the position.
The youth who also asked him to stop parading himself as the acting leader said, “The only person recognized as Yoruba nation and National Leader of Afenifere is Pa Reuben Fasoranti and he remains the National Leader of Afenifere.”
Addressing journalists during their protest in Akure, the Ondo State capital, on Tuesday, the Youth Leader of Afenifere, Comrade, Eric Oluwole said that they will not allow Pa Adebanjo to mortgage their future.
The protesters were armed with placards with various inscriptions such as,” Pa Fasonranti, please rescue Afenifere, “Ayo Adebanjo Must Go”, and “Stop parading yourself as Afenifere leader”, among others, accused Pa Adebanjo of being the brain behind the crisis rocking the group.
According to Oluwole, “What we are saying is that he should step down in the interest of Afenifere. We want peace and we want Baba Reuben Fasoranti to take over.”
Afenifere youth leader, “We hereby call on Pa Ayo Adebanjo to step down immediately, and he should stop parading himself as the National Leader of Afenifere. He has been acting and we have the letter because Baba (Fasoranti) wrote him a letter then that he should act on his behalf. But now, the whole drama has changed, and the youths are involved now and we want to make sure we are part of the restructuring of Afenifere.’’
In his reaction, Adebanjo said “I don’t know them and I have repeatedly said I don’t know their father. I don’t know their parents. They are only encouraging them to be talking.
“I have told you they don’t exist. I think some people just gather them and give them money to make them start talking as if something is happening in Afenifere.”
