Niger State police command has presented cheques worth N58.5 million to 32 families of police personnel who died in active service in the command between 2020 and 2022.
The gesture, according to the police public relations officer of the command, Wasiu Abiodun, was in furtherance of the inspector-general’s welfare schemes for police personnel.
He said, “The commissioner of police, Niger State Command CP Ogundele J. Ayodeji, on behalf of the Inspector-general of Police (IGP) Usman Alkali Baba presents cheques amounting to N58.578 million to 32 families of police personnel who died in active service in the Command within the year 2020/2022.”
He said the presentation of cheques to the next of kin and family members of the deceased officers was under the “ IGP’s Group Life Assurance Benefits Schemes. “
Abiodun said the commissioner of police appreciated the IGP for the welfare package and most especially for the speedy processing of the claims, in order to provide immediate succour for the families that are left behind by deceased police personnel.
He urged the families to judiciously use the resources to improve the standard of living of the next of kin, the children and the widows.
On behalf of the families, Mrs Magaret Bulus, commended the IGP, the commissioner of police and the state police command, as well as the command’s pension/insurance desk officer SP Finbarr Sarki for their efforts towards making the claims a reality.
The command’s clergymen SP Ebede Tobechukwu and SP Yakubu Tahir prayed for the families and the repose of the departed souls.
