BCOS Radio Resumes Transmission 24 Hours After Fire Incident

Less than 24 hours after it was gutted by fire, the radio arm of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS), Oluyole FM, has resumed transmission.

The resumption of the radio arm of BCOS was a temporary arrangement initiated by the station’s engineering crew to manage the extensive damage caused by the inferno.

While inspecting the level of damage caused by the fire incident with the members of management team, the executive chairman of BCOS, Prince Dotun Oyelade, regretted the serious damage done to three of the corporation’s studios.

Oyelade, however, assured that everything would be done to ensure that there is temporary semblance of normal transmission.

He cited three major reasons BCOS cannot afford to go off air.

The reasons, according to him, were airing of commercials, performance of social responsibility in publicising government programmes and to sustain the Corporation’s tradition of consistency over the past 47 years.

LEADERSHIP reports that the BCOS building was on Wednesday afternoon razed by fire triggered by a power surge caused by the sudden restoration of electric power by the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

The areas affected by the fire incident were the studio where the station’s popular dispute resolution programme ‘So Daa Bee’ is recorded, the make-up studio and the television studio.

Valuable materials and equipment worth millions of naira were destroyed by the fire, which was put out by the combined team of fire fighters from the State Fire Service, Federal Fire Service and officers of the Nigeria Air Force.
