The Abuja Newspapers Distributors Association (ANDA) has lamented the reckless behaviour of the Abuja Development Control in the demolition of their newspaper distribution centre.
The Newspaper distribution centre located at Area 1, Abuja, yesterday came under a heavy attack that led to the destruction of properties running into millions of naira.
In a statement made available to LEADERSHIP yesterday, signed by the president of the association comrade Joshua Orogun, it said the association had led a high-powered delegation of Distributors to meet with the director two weeks ago, and that an agreement was reached that the distribution ground remained, and that Development Control would come up with the design of what should be built at the premises.
“I and my team were with the director in his office two weeks ago and he acknowledged our existence, considering the importance of our business in news dissemination. He said he would get us the design of what we can build at the distribution ground,” it said.
Orogun who was disappointed by the turn out of events further explained that they had only been waiting on the design promise to them by the ADC Director in respect to what should be built at the premises.
“I feel sad. I feel heartbroken that we can treat in such manner like criminals by the Development Control, and agency we see as our friend,” it said.
The newspaper distributors are currently distributing newspapers in the open and on the ground enduring the scorching sun and the risk of newspapers being destroyed by rain at the city centre.
