The 2017 edition of the Abuja Unity Polo Tournament that has seen the build-up of excitement would, finally, gallop off today at the Abuja Guards Polo Club, Mambila Barracks.
The prestigious event which would enter its ninth year today, would end on May 14.
This year could be a particularly special one, as reports indicate that top politicians, captains of industries and the crème of the city’s social circle would all turn up for the tourney.
The chairman/ captain of the host club, Mustapha Junaidu, who dropped the hint, stated that top Nigerian polo patrons, foreign players from Argentina and Nigerian professional players would be on hand to showcase their awesome skills at the polo fiesta.
Speaking during a press conference on Monday, Junaidu revealed that defending champions Keffi Ponys, Max Air and 12 other teams, as well as 54 players and 300 ponies from the major polo centres in Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto, Zaria,Yola, Keffi, Port Harcourt, Bauchi and Abuja have confirmed their readiness to vie for honours in the prestigious Unity Polo Tournament.
The Guards Challenge Cup, Guards Brigade Trophy, Legislative Shield and President’s Cup which is the annual event’s biggest title would be up for grabs.
Also, top prizes would be won during the week-long polo event which remains one of the city’s biggest, single sporting events
