With a total 802 votes, Senator Samuel Anyanwu has been declared the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Imo State.

Recall that his sole challenger and immediate-past governor of the State, Chief Emeka Ihedioha, had earlier withdrawn from the PDP primary election about three weeks ago.

802 accredited delegates from the 27 local government areas of the state affirmed Anyanwu as the govership candidate, while 23 delegates abstained, 28 votes were voided.

Chairman of the PDP Electoral Committee for Imo State, Rt. Hon. Kenneth Okon, and the secretary, Olalekan Rotimi, declared Anyanwu elected, which was affirmed by the state party chairman, Engr. Charles Ugwu.

In his acceptance speech, an elated Anyanwu expressed gratitude to the delegates and party members for trooping out enmasse to vote him as the governorship candidate.

He promised to work towards victory and take over the Douglas House, saying: “I will work for you, and I will work with you. I thank all our party leaders, delegates, journalists, and people. Imo people can’t wait to usher in PDP and today marks the beginning of the process.

“Oppressors do not give up easily but it will be a collective effort and together we will reclaim Douglas House for PDP. I want to acknowledge Chief Emeka Ihedioha for the sacrifice he made.”
