Ten traders lost their lives in Jega local government area of Kebbi StateĀ  when a trailer driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into them by the roadside.

Eye witness, Bello Abubakar told LEADERSHIP that the accident occurred at a busy roadside area where the traders were having a field day selling their wares.

According to him, the trailer was coming from Koko/Yauri area of the state when the accident happened.

It was gathered that 46 others that narrowly escaped death in the accident were taken to the JegaĀ  General Hospital for treatment.

Reports say many of those who died in the accident were bread, orange and banana hawkers by the roadside.

Abubakar explained that ā€œthe accident happened this morning. I think the trailer was coming from Lagos or Ibadan in the south west. The driver lost control of the vehicle as it was entering Jega from the Koko/Yauri side and it ran into group of roadside tradersā€.

He said many people were injured in the accident and have been taken to the hospitals in the area.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer (PRO)Ā  of the Federal Road Safety Corps in Kebbi State, Ibrahim Kangiwa said they have not been informed about the accident yet .
