The Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA), is supporting Nigeria’s charge for medals in badminton at Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games by sponsoring top Nigerian female ranked badminton player, Dorcas Adesokan for one month training tour in Europe.

President of Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbit, said the training tour will expose the athlete to the rudiment of the game, garner international exposure and also improve her ranking toward qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

He said the player while in Europe, would participate in various international tournaments courtesy of BFN to improve her ranking.

Orbit also revealed that aside Dorcas, who going for training tour in Europe, four Nigerian badminton players are also heading to Indonesia for a two month training camp in the Asian country in BFN’s drive for podium finish at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

“BCA is sponsoring her but they also mentioned it to us that it would better for her to take the advantage of the period she would be there to participate in some of the championships that would hold in neighbouring countries to improve her ranking. In doing that, BFN have to come in to get sponsors to support her in addition to what BCA is doing.

“We have also concluded arrangement for four of our players to go to Indonesia next month and they would be there for a two month training camp in one of the best Sports Academies in the country. The arrangement has been concluded and the players would be away for two month.

“I would also make a trip to China next month on the invitation of Chinese Badminton Association. I’ll meet with them to have a bilateral talk on the areas we can partner with them and be of help to our quest to develop the game of badminton in Nigeria by exchange of programmes for coaches, players and also support in the area of equipment.
