The Sokoto State Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) and Director Civil Litigation in the state Ministry of Justice, Lema Sambo Wali has explained why corruption remain on the increase in the country.
Wali, who divulged that, the ugly trend continues to be on the rise because our societies glorify corruption, added however that, both situational and systemic failures are contributory factors of corruption.
Speaking in an interview, the legal luminary debunked insinuations that corruption is an inborn character in Nigeria, arguing that, it is simply but an outcome of many years of systemic failure.
He added that, both NBA and the press should continue to remain vanguard of role of law and good governance, hence they are the best professionals that could encourage good governance.
Said Wali, “NBA and journalists should be best professionals to encourage good governance. And don’t forget that the NBA has always been in the forefront of fighting corruption.
“Our only position however is that, while fighting corruption, it should be within the ambit of the law”.
The state NBA chairman further advised that, the state should domesticate Child Rights Act.
