The House of Representatives has adjourned the plenary proceeding halfway to enable the leadership and members to take steps towards ending the ongoing strike by the organised labour.

The adjournment came shortly after the consideration and adoption of a motion of urgent public importance, moved by Deputy Speaker of the House of House, Hon. Benjamin Kalu at resumed plenary on Wednesday.

Kalu who came under matters of urgent public importance called on the leadership of the House to engage with its Senate counterpart and subsequently the leadership of the organised labour under the auspices of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) for amicable end of the industrial action.

Several lawmakers who contributed to debate on the motion lamented the hardship caused to Nigerian masses by the ongoing strike and called for urgent steps to end the impasse.

In his ruling before the adjournment, Speaker Abbas Tajudeen said, the leadership of the House would proceed on a meeting with that of the Senate and enjoined members to make individual efforts to address the precarious situation.

Consequently, all items listed on the Order Paper for consideration were suspended while the House was adjourned to the next legislative day, being Thursday.
