No fewer than three persons have been killed following the outbreak of cholera in Bille Kingdom of Degema local government area of Rivers State.
The chairman of Bille Community Development Committee (CDC), Dr Isaac Somiary Harry, disclosed this when the chairman of Degema local government area, Hon Michael John Williams, led a team of medical personnel to the kingdom.
Harry said the outbreak of cholera and other waterborne diseases have been a periodic occurrence in the kingdom.
In his speech, the council chairman, Williams said the visit was to have background information of the situation, with a view to permanently addressing it and forestall future recurrence.
He said Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has already directed the Ministry of Health and affiliate agencies to quickly respond to the health crisis and bring it under control.
The LGA boss, who said the council would give all necessary support to the experts from the health sector to ensure that the issue does not reoccur, assured that the state government in conjunction with the council would do all it could to restore normalcy in Bille.
In his remarks, the Amanyanabo of Bille Kingdom, HRH King Igbikingeri Ngowari Cornelius Herbert, Agbaniye-Jike XVIII, thanked the state government for its swift response to the outbreak of the disease through the Ministry of Health.
Herbert, who appealed for more drugs to be made available in the interim, noted that the ones earlier sent were very effective in containing the effect and spread of the disease.
