Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA) has joined the call for diaspora voting, adding that over 17million Nigerians living abroad should not be neglected in the electioneering process.
The party also added that it decided to establish it foreign liaison office as part of their clamour for diaspora voting.
They stated that the Nigerian Diaspora covers practically every part of the world but the largest populations of Nigerians can be found in the UK, USA and South Africa.
Director Foreign Liaison for APDA Young Leader’s Forum, Mrs. Christina Ude, said “For many years, Nigerians in diaspora have been complaining about obstacles to voting while abroad. That’s why Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance has set up the office, APDA Foreign Liaison. APDA is a people’s driven and focused political party totally committed to building a new peaceful Nigeria and working for its unity and progress. To this end, APDA is determined to drive an economic message, create a new movement which is imbued with the values of empathy, social justice and knowledge of the deprivations and marginalization of majority of our citizens.”
She added that APDA Foreign Liaison has been established to create a platform to sensitive Nigerians in the diaspora, “who besieged APDA’s office for inquiries on electing young Nigerians into leadership positions, to ensure that Nigerians in the diaspora are reached accordingly to engage in the process of taking over governance come 2019.”
She continued “The Foreign Liaison shall be responsible for the production, generation and documentation of members in diaspora and will also serve as the communication network within the directorate. In addition, the Foreign Liaison office will be actively involved in the engagement and deployment of Nigerians abroad for the growth of the party. Development of strategies, produce guidelines, plan for implementation, advice the party on foreign matters, mobilize diasporas to register as members of the party and organize seminars and symposiums on behalf of the party in the diaspora is part of our agenda.
“APDA party and all bodies are determined to ensure compliance with the rule of Law, party procedures and policies as well as other regulatory bodies.
The Ude, whose mandate is to promote the political aspirations of young Nigerians, noted that the diaspora directorate is geared towards the official launch of the foreign chapters in the USA, UK Europe, Asia etc
“The directorate is responsible for the overall coordination and administration of the party in the diaspora. We will open the doors of the APDA Party to working people and to young people, we are calling for newer faces in a variety of political positions. The next political stars who will define our future maybe in the diaspora. Only God knows.”
