The United Progressive Party, UPP, has described the current fuel scarcity in the country as a national embarrassment that has made life unbearable for the common man. The party stated this in a New Year message signed by the national chairman of the party, Chief Chekwas Okorie. In the message, they also asked that the federal government take urgent steps to supply petroleum products and alleviate the suffering of Nigerians.

Members of the party insist that this is the time to provide strong progressive leadership that will foster love, peace and unity in the country and UPP as a movement, is determined to give directions and leadership in progressive governance of the nation in consonance with the symbol/logo of the party which is the Tiger Head.

The party noted that the forthcoming governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states already slated for July 14 and September 22, 2018 respectively, would determine the Independent National Electoral Commission’s readiness to conduct the 2019 general election. “The need for the commission to start early preparations for the general election cannot be over emphasised. This is to avoid the charade called Anambra State governorship election in November, 2017.”

They urged Nigerians to be vigilant and protect their votes in future elections to ensure that every vote is counted and counts in the overall result. They observed that the New Year should be the time for sober reflection on the multifarious challenges that bedeviled the nation and proffer solutions to them. “It is time for action. It is time to articulate and execute people oriented projects in the interest of the long-suffering masses.”
