A frontline politician in Gombe state, Sani Abubakar believes that Alhaji Ahmad Abubakar Walama deserved to be awarded as “Ambassador for Conscious and Good Governance” by the Gombe state Chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC).
As part of activities to mark the 40th anniversary and May day celebration of NLC, the Gombe state chapter of the union gave Walama an award in recognition of his sincere commitment in rendering selfless services to Gombe State and its citizens.
According to the Gombe state Chairman of NLC, Comrade Haruna Kamara, the award is not an ordinary one, because it is only awarded to persons who distinguish themselves in different facets of human endeavour and having watched with keen interest individual performance of various personalities both in government and elsewhere,a select committee consisting of both men and women of integrity within the NLC nominated and finally selected Hon. Walama as its candidate for the award.
Sani Abubakar, while congratulating Walama in a statement made available to Newsmen in Gombe, said. “Hon.Walama’s selection was based on the context of individual sacrifice, performance, achievements and successes recorded, when he held different positions within and outside Gombe State and also on different facets of human endeavour, which unarguably are attributes associated with men of honour, substance, selflessness, honesty and integrity.”
Adding that, Walama is widely believed to be an honest and sincere personality, a man of integrity,an exemplary leader,as well as epitome of strength, who by hard work has carved for himself a niche of excellence worthy of emulation.”
He noted that Walama who holds the record of the longest serving Local government Chairman in the history of the State, has remained a frontline adviser to His Excellency,Dr Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo.
“His inputs on the way forward, has a greatly improved inter-personal and governmental correlation between the Executive governor, his administration and the entire citizens of the State.”
Sani further disclosed that it was in recognition of Walama experience as a grassroot politician and mobiliser that Governor Dankwambo appointed him as the Commissioner Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy affairs, and within few years of assuming office, he had successfully turned things around for good.
“His commitment to his duties and humility, brought harmony, good understanding and positive rapport between traditional rulers in Gombe State and the government,as well as harnessing to his credit,an enduring peaceful co-existence among the diverse ethnic groups in the state.” He said.
