A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and chairmanship aspirant in Lagos State, Dr Tokunbo Pearse, has said his major aim is to rebrand the party and win the state for the party for the first time.
Pearse who stated this in an exclusive chat with LEADERSHIP said he presented himself for the position because he wanted to put the party in a better stead in the state.
The PDP chieftain said he is not being sponsored by any individual or a group within the party.
He said the major problem in the party is that past chairmen of the party were imposed and those not privy to that arrangement have worked against the party.
“People said that the state chairmen we had so far were imposed by some leaders. What I am trying to do and with my experience and contact generally, I have been cordial with all the leaders, and I do not have image that somebody is going to impose me, so I will work with everybody from the grassroot to the local government, to the state, zone and the national body.”
Pearse said he had worked with most of the party leaders and party members before and they believed he is independent enough to be fair to everybody.
“Therefore I will be able to unite the party effectively and get ready for election victories,” Pearse said.
Shedding more light on the impression that the PDP is dead in Lagos state, he said, “We have a vibrant APC led by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the governors are just his appendages, really you have a party that has been in power for over 20 years since the return of democratic dispensation.
“The APC is entrenched in Lagos, and the party is a national party now, but the power of APC, the epic centre of APC is here in Lagos, that is why the PDP which is the opposition party in the state has been marginalised in Lagos because of the power of the APC.
