The newly elected Chairman of Etsako East Local Government has sent a strong warning to revenue collectors in the local government area, saying he is ready to clamp down on any caught diverting local government funds for personal use.
The new council boss, Alhaji Aremiyau Momoh, sent the warning while speaking to journalists after the inauguration of the new local government council tenure in Edo State.
He said the move was part of efforts not only to ensure accountability but also to increase local government revenue base, particularly at a time like this when the country is still struggling to move out of recession.
According to him, “I learnt that some people are diverting revenues accrue to the local government for personal, though I am still carrying out investigation because I don’t believe in hearsay”.
“This is wrong and it is against humanity. For somebody to go and hang somewhere and start collecting money meant for the government, is enough to insure God’s wrath, said Alhaji Momoh who revealed that he is leaving no stone unturned to expose those behind such practice.
“I am setting up a committee who will to look into that and after a report is submitted from their investigation, I will ensure that proper action is taken against such people because that is stealing, he added.
