Plans by Federal government to complete construction Standard gauge Railway line from Lagos to Ibadan by next year may not come to fruition, as Lagos State Government has started to construct a Channel from the Ikeja axis of the Agege-Oshodi Motor road which has been marked as ‘Right of Way” for the project.
This development is coming on the heel of the recent complaints by Contractor of the project China Civil Engineering and Construction Corporation (CCECC) that the Head room of Flyovers built at Oshodi, Ikeja, and Ijoko by the State governments in Lagos and Ogun state respectively cannot accommodate new inventions in Standard gauge railway development as obtains globally.
It was gathered that the Headroom of a bridge in standard gauge Railway construction should be 68 meters as against 4.8 meters headroom of some of the aforementioned flyovers.
It was learnt that about four Excavators have since Monday been deployed to site to dig the Channels from PWD Bus stop to Sogunle and Oshodi.
It could not however be ascertained why the Lagos State government suddenly decided to construct drainage along the road which has been neglected by successive governments.
It was scooped that it may not be unconnected with the torrential downpour which has rendered many homeless.
It would be recalled that Minister of Transport Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi had during a recent visit to Ijoko to have an on the spot assessment of the Ijoko overhead bridge promised to dialogue with Lagos state government and Ogun state government with a view to find lasting solutions to how the Overhead bridges at Oshodi, Ikeja and Ijoko could be raised to 6.8 meters from the ground.
