Following the protest and closure of the University of Ibadan (UI) International School over the use of hijab by female students, the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) yesterday appealed to the faithful to remain calm and law abiding.
It specifically called on Muslims in Oyo State and Nigeria in general to give the UI management the benefit of doubt and the opportunity to wade into the matter.
MURIC director, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, in a statement he issued yesterday, described the ban of hijab in the school as an invitation to chaos and a threat to girl-child education.
Akintola expressed surprise that at a time when the whole world was struggling to boost girl-child education and reduce the number of out of-school children, a female school administrator was issuing anti-girl-child education directives.
The principal of the University of Ibadan International School (UIIS), Mrs. Phebean Olowe, recently banned the use of hijab by female students of the school.
The ban angered Muslim parents who protested at the gates of the school on Monday.
