The Nasarawa state government on Thursday has called on communities
across the state to embrace family planning services so as to reduce
maternal mortality rate for the overall development of the state.
Dr.Daniel Iya, the state commissioner of Health made the call in Lafia
during a presentation of finalized Nasarawa state Costed
Implementation Plan(CIP) for Family Planning organized by the state
Ministry of Health in collaboration with Pathfinder International, an
LEADERSHIP reports that the meeting was a stakeholders engagement
which brought together health experts, stakeholders from various
ministries, agencies, the media, civil society, members of state
assembly, NGO’s among others.
Iya said that the meeting was organized in order to encourage
communities to embrace family planning in order to reduce maternal and
child mortality rate among women for the overall development of the

“It is in view of this, I want to call on the communities across the
state to embrace family planning services considering the importance
of family planning to the health and the socio-economic development of
the state and the country at large.
“Family planning strengthens the health of the woman directly and the
man indirectly, saves lives of the mother and makes significant
contributions to reduced maternal mortality rate among women.
“It also enables the couple prepare adequately for next pregnancies
and children as well as to enables sexually active women and girls
protect themselves from unwanted pregnancies,” he said.
Iya urged the participants to use the knowledge gain in order to
improve on the health of their host communities and Nigeria at large.
Also speaking,Mrs. Edirin Aderemi, the Programme Officer, Pathfinder
International commended the state for taking the lead in the process
of developing the Costed Implementation Plan(CIP) for family
planning in the state.
“We believe that the implementation of the plan will help improve
maternal health as well as improve the quality of life of women as we
also encourage women to embrace family planning in the interest of
their health and for the overall development of the country,” she

the CIP which is four years started from 2017 is a multiyear road map
designed to help the state government to achieve their family planning
He said that the goals if achieved would save million of lives and
improve the health and wellbeing of women, families thereby reducing
mother to child mortality not only in the state but in the country
