Governing Board of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has denied reports that the Director General of the Commission, Ishaq Moddibo Kawu has been suspended over digital switchover crisis.
The governing board in a statement signed by a board member, Salihu Bamidele Aluko, on behalf of the Board chairman, Alhaji Ikra Aliyu Bilibis, described the story ad mischievous and unfounded.
Aluko in the statement explained that the board held its quarterly meeting but did not discuss or contemplate the idea of suspending the DG.
The statement reads; “the Board is shocked that a reputable newspaper like THE SUN, will carry an unfounded, mischievous and irresponsible story that the Board has suspended the DG of the NBC, Mal. Is’haq Modibbo Kawu. The mischievous story adduced as reason for the purported suspension to a non-existent digital switchover crisis.
“The Board of the Commission, headed by Alhaji Ikra Aliyu Bilibis, held its quarterly meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, this week and it didn’t at any point discussed nor contemplated a so-called “suspension” of the DG, Modibbo Kawu, who also actively participated in the meeting.”
The Board, however, expressed dissatisfaction over the report, thereby demanded an unreserved apology.
“We are sad that the report would quote an unnamed source for such a story when the reporter could have reached the Chairman to confirm the veracity or otherwise of the deliberately mischievous and unprofessional report. We are insisting that THE SUN removes the story immediately and offer apologies to the Board of the National Broadcasting Commission,” the statement added.
