The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested 918 suspected drug traffickers in Akwa-Ibom, Ondo, Ekiti, Plateau and Oyo states. The Agency in statements from the various state commands said the arrest was in the last 12 months
In Akwa-Ibom, the state commander of the agency, Mr Malami Sokoto, during the commemoration of the 2020 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, said that it arrested 273 suspected drug traffickers and prosecuted 15 suspects from June 2019 till date in the state.
In Ondo, the state commander, Mr Hakuna Gagara, arrested 150 suspects and seized 7,702.114kg of illicit drugs between January and June in the state. He added that 7,702.114kg of hard drugs; comprising: 7,653.445kg of cannabis sativa, 48.669kg of psychotropic substances and 0.06grams of cocaine were seized by the agency within six months.
In Plateau, Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), said it arrested 320 suspected drug dealers and secured 101 convictions in the last 11 months in the state. This was contained in a statement by its commander, Alhaji Ibrahim Braji, to mark the 2020 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Meanwhile, the NDLEA, Ekiti Command, said it arrested 109 suspected dealers on illicit drugs in the last 11 months in the state. state commander of the NDLEA, Mr Gaura Shadow, made the disclosure at a press briefing yesterday.
Also, the Oyo State Command of the agency said that it arrested 66 persons for drug-related offences in the state between January and June 2020. The agency’s state commander, Josephine Obi, made this disclosure in Ibadan, on Friday, during the commemoration of the 2020 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) also announced the arrest of 169 drug suspects in Bayelsa between 2019 to 2020. The NDLEA commander, Mr Kopi Maulsei, disclosed this on Friday, in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa capital, to mark the 2020 United Nations International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
He added that following the arrests, the command seized 193.832kgs of hard drugs comprising 102.223kgs of cannabis sativa; 0.035kg of cocaine; 0.065kg of heroin; 2.5kgs of Tramadol 2,854 Tabs.
The Imo state commander, Mr. Nse Inam, disclosed that the command seized 744.165kg of hard drugs, while 87 suspects were arrested, consisting of 76 males and 11 females between January and June, 2020
