In its bid to assist the government’s fight against the recent outbreak of cholera infections across Abuja and its environs, a non-governmental organisation, U-Save Foundation, has provided medical supplies to health centres in Dei Dei and Dakwa communities.
The country director of the foundation, Mrs. Uju Anwukah, who made the presentation, yesterday, in Abuja, stated that a team of medical experts and volunteers from her foundation, have identified Kubwa ward as an emergency zone needing urgent intervention with135 active cholera cases and 33 deaths currently recorded.
Anwukah who called on the residents of the affected areas to ensure they keep clean to environment, as well as maintain good personal hygiene also reiterated that:
She said, “Clean environment and safe food practices are the secret to well-being. It is obvious that our environment is still challenged by open defecation, unguided refuse dumping and poor access to clean drinking water, which has given rise to the cholera outbreak in our communities.
“According to NCDC, this year alone, over 37,000 cases have been reported and over 1,000 deaths recorded across 23 States in Nigeria. This deadly disease will continue to take the lives of our people especially our children if proper medical interventions and prevention methods are not implemented”, Anwukah stated.
