The Chief of Army Staff, Lt-Gen. Tukur Buratai on appealed to Nigerians to cooperate with the Nigeria Army in its responsibilities of protecting lives and properties as enshrined in the nation’s constitution.
He assured Nigerians that the Army would remain responsive and apolitical in the discharge of its duties.
Buratai who gave the assurance in Ibadan during the closing ceremony of the 2017 Chief of Army Staff Annual Conference held in Ibadan, promised that the resolution reached at the end of the conference would be judiciously implemented.
“As we enter 2018, the Nigeria Army identified the core value of discipline, professionalism and responsiveness as the benchmark to reposition the service been the pride of the nation.
“There is the need for maintenance culture, continuous
infrastructural development and well fare of personnel in the performance of their operation. I promise to use all available resources that would encourage all officers and soldiers perform optimally in their various command,’’ Buratai said.
The Chief of Army Staff said that the objective of the conference had been achieved as it was noted that the Nigeria Army performed creditable well in 2017, projection made and far reaching decision were also reached at the conference.
He assured that the official Secret Act of 1962 would be applied strictly in the conduct of future Nigeria Army operations.
Buratai appreciated the guidance and political direction of President Muhammadu Buhari on the successes recorded by the Army and affirmed total commitment of Nigeria Army to the President.
Also speaking Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, who declared the conference closed commended all the participants, saying the conference clearly confirmed the patriotism and unity of the Nigeria Army.
Ajimobi said that the Chief of Army Annual Conference was a first class conference, adding that the participant had benefited immensely.
While reading the communiqué of the conference, Maj-Gen. Christopher Jemitola, Chief of Policy and Planning (Army), said that the conference took cognizance of the fact that the army must sustain its investment in personnel management.
Jemitola said that there must be continuous provision of direction and vision for all categories of personnel at all times with a view to combating internal and external security threat to guaranty the security of Nigeria.
