A Benin based Human Rights Activist, Mr Solomon Okoduwa, has been appointed as Senior Special Assistant (SSA) on Human Trafficking and Illegal Migration to Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo.
Prior to the appointment, Okoduwa who is the President, Initiative for Youth Awareness on Migration, Immigration, Development and Reintegration (IYAMIDR), was a member of the state committee against human trafficking.
Obaseki had at the different fora described the activist as hard working and focused.
Okoduwa has been at the forefront on the awareness on the dangers of illegal migration and benefits of getting engaged back home in Nigeria and Edo in particular.
Appointment of Solomon Okoduwa has been described as a well deserved appointment, while it’s being celebrated in the civil society community.
The Edo has witness an unprecedented returnees from Libya within the last six weeks.
The State Attorney General and Commissioner for justice, Prof. Yinka Omorogbe, had on Thursday disclosed to journalists that 1,439 returnees had been received by the government from late October.
Last Friday, no fewer than 200 were yet again received by the government from Libya enroute Lagos.
Omorogbe had said the government, after documentation of the returnees, allowed those who want to return to their home while others are accommodated in a hotel in Benin.
The Commissioner who also disclosed that the government pay monthly stipend to the returnees, said plan is been perfected to engage the returnees on empowerment programme from January.
