Ooni of Ife and co-chairman, National Council of Traditional Rulers of Nigeria, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, has lauded President Muhammadu Buhari for his approval of the bill on Traditional Complementary and Alternative Medicine Bill 2020.
Ooni Ogunwusi disclosed that the president had granted approval to the Federal Executive Council on the bill for onward transmission to the National Assembly for speedy passage into law.
Addressing a press conference to commemorate African Traditional Medicine day at his palace in Ile-Ife on Tuesday, Ooni Ogunwusi disclosed that stakeholders were working in conjunction with the National Assembly for the full reading and passage into law of the bill.
He noted that the majority of the people in the world rely on traditional medicine as their major source of health care as it is trusted, acceptable, accessible and affordable.
Ooni Ogunwusi disclosed that no fewer than 40 herbal products have been approved recently by the Ministry of Health through NAFDAC as part of his COVID 19 response adding that promising traditional therapies have emerged and are still emerging.
