Ahead of the forthcoming national convention of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a group has rejected the appointment of former Benue State governor, Gabriel Suswam as the chairman of its electoral panel committee.
The group operating under the aegis of PDP Professionals for the Defence, Integrity and Equity, in a statement disclosed that “Mr Suswan surely does not represent a symbol of unbiased purity, the very image of sanitising wholesomeness without which we cannot have a clean, equitable, unsoiled election.”
According to the statement issued by the chairman of the group, Barrister Tichus Zungeru, “Suswan is a known ally and sworn friend of Mr Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State who does not hide his brazen sponsorship of Uche Secondus, for the national chairmanship position of our party.”
It added that, “With such an obviously compromised scenario, we do not need a soothsayer to tell us how Mr Suswan will behave as chairman of such a very important Committee. Naturally he will be working for Secondus right from the inception.”
It therefore stressed that, “Mr Suswan’s appointment is therefore unacceptable to us. It is very flawed, erroneous, deliberately designed to arrive at a predetermined solution.
“And what is more, Mr Suswan is still very much tainted with various EFCC cases as he battled with issues of personal integrity. Surely, he is hardly the right person for such a very sensitive job with all his obvious baggage of dishonour trailing him everywhere.
“We therefore demand that National Caretaker Committee should strike off his name immediately and replace him with a more ethically responsible and wholesome personality.”
