Barring any last minute change, the Nigeria Police Force will re-arraign Senator Dino Melaye, Mohammed Audu and six other suspects re-arrested in the case of criminal conspiracy in Kogi state.
The suspects are: Kabiru Saidu a.k.a Osama from Dekina LGA but based in Anyagba (Leader of the gang) rearrested in Tafa Balewa Local Government Area in Bauchi State; Nuhu Salisu, a.k.a Small (a member of the gang) rearrested in Ganaja Village, Lokoja State.
Others are: Musa Mohammed a.k.a Iko, one of the escapees rearrested who was earlier arrested for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery; Emmanuel Audu, one of the escapees also rearrested who was earlier arrested for criminal conspiracy and armed robbery; John Beneche, who carried four of the escaped suspects; Osama, Small, Musa, Iko Audu after their escape to their criminal hideout at Ganaja Village, Lokoja.
Seye Atowoju, who was arrested in the process of relocating four of the escaped suspects to another location to evade police re-arrest; Danjuma Yunusa a.k.a O2, who accompanied the principal suspect, Osama to the house of one Egga Ochai by water side, Lokoja; Egga Ochai, who harboured the principal suspect, Osama in his house for two days and thereafter went to the village of the principal suspect in Dekina Local Government and brought one Abbas Haruna (His Mallam) to Lokoja; Abbas Haruna, who orchestrated his movement from Lokoja to his home town at Tafa Balewa Local Government Area in Bauchi State where both of them were arrested and Gloria Audu, a sister to one of the above mentioned suspects, Emmanuel Audu. She harboured him for some days to enable him escape Police arrest.
In a statement signed by Force PRO, ACP Jimoh Moshood, he recalled that “on the March 28, 2018, the Kogi State Command announced the escape from lawful custody of six suspects including the two, Osama and Small whose confession indicted Senator Dino Melaye and Mohammed Audu in a case of conspiracy and unlawful possession of Prohibited Firearm already filed at the Federal High Court, Lokoja which came up in court on the date the suspects escaped from lawful custody. The case was adjourned to May 10, 2018 for the Police to produce all the suspects in court.
“Consequently, the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris, ordered the IGP’s Intelligence Response Team and Special Tactical Squad, Personnel of the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department to move to Kogi State and carryout discreet investigation into the escape and re-arrest the escaped suspects and bring all those involved to justice.
“ As a result of intense raids, cordon and search operations carried out by the police team in some identified criminal hideouts and black spots in some locations in Kogi State and other states of the country and working on active intelligence gathered on the where about of the fleeing suspects who were rearrested.”
