As excitement mounts for the para-athletics events at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Team Nigeria’s para shot put coach, Abdulaziz Ali, has shared his confidence in athlete Ogochukwu Modesta Ogili’s potential to clinch medals in both the shot put and javelin events.

Speaking to LEADERSHIP sports ahead of Tuesday’s event, Ali expressed his assurance regarding Ogili’s preparation for the competitions.

“I have only one female athlete competing in the F55 to F60 combined class for shot put and javelin, and we are very hopeful as we have come fully prepared for the competition.

“The shotput event is scheduled for tomorrow, and I believe she will achieve something significant, although I cannot predict the colour of the medal at this stage,” he remarked.

Ali emphasised Ogili’s impressive track record, noting her performance at the last qualifier in April, where she secured two gold medals and a silver, earning her place at the Islamic Solidarity Games.

“You cannot talk about being at ease when you’re already in the water. We’re here, and we’re not afraid of anyone. We will give our best effort tomorrow,” he assured.

Furthermore, Ali commended the organisation of the Islamic Solidarity Games 2025, likening it to the standards of the Commonwealth Games.

“So far, everything has been excellent. In my view, the organisation of these games can be compared to that of the Commonwealth Games. The athletes’ village, competition venues, logistics arrangements, and overall game management have been superb,” he stated.
