UBA Fire: 9 Rescued, 5 Revived As Emergency Response Intensifies In Lagos

A fire outbreak at a branch of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) on Lagos Island has left several people affected, with emergency services confirming that nine casualties have been rescued so far.

In an update posted on Facebook, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service revealed that five of the victims had been successfully resuscitated, while efforts were ongoing to revive four others.

The statement read, “A total of nine casualties have been rescued. Five individuals have been successfully resuscitated. Several others escaped unhurt while efforts are currently ongoing to resuscitate the remaining four individuals.”

The agency added that its personnel remain on the ground battling the blaze and assisting victims, stressing that investigations into the cause of the fire will commence once the emergency situation is brought under control.

LEADERSHIP reports that the fire engulfed parts of the UBA branch on Lagos Island, with videos circulating online showing flames and thick smoke billowing from the building. Panic spread across the area as passersby and nearby residents looked on while firefighters raced to the scene. The video shows people coming down from the building using a ladder.

As of the time of filing this report, the cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
