The Kano State Fire Service, in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, confirmed the incident. The statement revealed that the well collapsed around 11:40am on Thursday, January 9, 2025, while three men were working to re-dig and repair the well.

The statement said the walls of the well caved in, burying one person under and dragging two others, who were standing the edge, into the rubble.

A resident of the area, Bashir Namadi, reported the incident to the fire service, prompting the dispatch of a rescue team.

“Our rescue team for emergency aid from the department headquarter, were mobilised to the scene of the incidence and arrived at about 12:20pm. After their arrival, they succeeded in extracting two people alive, while the other person by name Yusuf Nadabo of about 50 years old, was rescued unconscious and later confirmed his death.
