One worker has been confirmed dead and seven others injured after a section of the New Gombe State House of Assembly Complex under construction collapsed on Friday.
The Permanent Secretary of the Gombe State Ministry of Works, Housing and Transportation, Danladi Adams, said the incident occurred when a cantilevered entrance canopy being constructed gave way at the project site.
According to him, one worker died in the collapse, while seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries.
Adams said five of the injured victims are receiving treatment at the Gombe State Specialist Hospital, while the remaining two are being attended to at the Federal Teaching Hospital (FTH), Gombe.
Following the incident, Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya ordered an immediate investigation to determine the cause of the collapse.
The governor also directed that the state government should bear the full cost of treatment for the injured workers.
He further instructed the contractor handling the project and the supervising consultant to submit a comprehensive incident report within 24 hours as part of efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the collapse
