The death of one student has been confirmed alongside four others that sustained varying degrees of injuries following the collapse of the corridor of a one block of two classrooms at Government Girls Science and Technical College Potiskum, Yobe State.
The incident occurred at about 12noon on Thursday when the students were about to go for their lunch break, according to Channels television.
Briefing Journalists over the incident, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry for Basic and Secondary Education in Yobe State, Bukar Aji, said the injured were students of Senior Secondary School (SS) II, Potiskum were receiving treatment at Specialist Hospital in Potiskum.
Aji further explained that the State Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has been contacted to investigate the cause of the incident and revert back.
Sympathising with the family of the deceased and injured students, Aji assured that the Yobe State government would always be proactive in maintaining all its structures to forestall further occurrence.
