The member-elect for Zaria Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been nominated for the position of the Speaker of the 10th House.
Abbas was nominated by the immediate-past Majority of the House, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa from Kano State, also of the APC.
The nomination was seconded by Nnaji Nnolim of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) from Enugu State.
Also, the Deputy Speaker in the 9th House, Ahmed Wase, (APC, Plateau) also of the APC was nominated for the same position.
Wase was nominated by Tijjani Kayode from Kwara State (APC) and seconded by Abdulmumin Muhammed from Nasarawa State (APC).
Furthermore, a member-elect from Zamfara State, Aminu Sani Jaji, was nominated for the office of the Speaker by Aliyu Bindawa and Aminu Ibrahim from Katsina State.
The three aspirants accepted their nominations and open ballot voting has commenced with members called according to states alphabetically to say which of the candidates they vote for.
The Deputy Clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, is presiding over the election, saying 359 Members-elect were participating in the election.
LEADERSHIP reports that Abbas, endorsed by the APC, will slug it out with Wase, Jaji and Hon. Miriam Onuoha (Imo) in race for the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives.
However, Onuoha who did not announce whether she has withdrawn from the race or not was not nominated for the position at the close of nomination on Tuesday morning.
