All Progressives Congress (APC) women group under the auspices of Women for Yari Movement, has rejected the zoning list forwarded for the 10th National Assembly leadership by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
The group called for the withdrawal of the list to allow a free and fair contest for the leadership of the 10th Senate.
At a briefing with journalists in Abuja, convener of the group, Sofiya Ibrahim Ogoh and the secretary, Ifenwa Ezenwa said an earlier claim by the NWC that the zoning list was drawn in consultation with party faithful was untrue.
They accused the cabal and the president-elect’s inner circle of unilaterally handpicking their friends and zoned the Senate leadership to them and called on the president-elect, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to prevail on his inner circle to back off from opposing leaders in the incoming 10th NASS.
The group also warned against their interference which it cautioned may led to a disastrous start to Tinubu’s presidency.
The group said, “The APC NWC should not have anointed a favourite among the 109 senators as distinguished senate president and other positions. As the NWC ought to have stayed on the sidelines and cheer all the children on the field to play or run, freely, fairly and to the best of their natural abilities. It is not too late for the APC NWC to embrace the metaphor of true mothers to stem the crisis engulfing the party over that zoning list, of which, we can assure the party, would continue to rise as May 29th, 2023 presidential inauguration day.
“All candidates aspiring to the Senate Presidency of the 10th NASS are patriots who would work with the president-elect and none of them should be hamstrung for a cabal’s choice.”
“We are convinced that distinguished Senator Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar enjoys the confidence of the majority of the incoming senators of the 10th NASS and would be elected on the first ballot in a free, open and fair contest – based on his personal competence and decades of experience in the public service,” the group added.
