The residents lamented that the situation has affected the social and economic activities in the area, adding that efforts by the community to address the situation have been unsuccessful.

Some residents who spoke to LEADERSHIP on the situation, regretted that many businessmen and women have relocated to other communities, while those that could not, have been languishing in abject poverty.

They explained that there was a time when the community bought cables to replace the faulty ones to restore the light, adding that their effort yielded no desired response.

The Community leader, Alhaji Inuwa Mohammed said that the community has been in darkness since April 2024.

He added that the transformer supplying electricity to the area had been damaged, calling for a replacement in order to enjoy power supply again.

Mohammed said “We have made several meetings with the Kaduna Electric officials in Makera to the extent that we contributed money to procure the damaged materials, yet it was fruitless”.

He described the situation as unbearable for the residents of the community.

Mohammed appealed to the authorities to save them as it is easy for the men of the underworld to operate more in darkness.

According to Mohammed, some residents are abandoning their businesses for other ventures, which is not good for economic growth.

He added that “Millions of naira have been lost to this recurring power outage in our ancient town”.

Mohammed urged the appropriate authorities, particularly Kaduna Electric to restore the power as it has paralysed socio-economic activities in their community, he added.

When contacted the Regional Manager, Makera, Kaduna Electric, Basil Ujam he confirmed the blackout, adding that they are waiting for feedback from their head office.
