11 People Die In Ogun Road Crash

A total of 11 people have been confirmed dead in a lone road accident which occurred on Sango Ota-Abeokuta Expressway on Sunday evening.

The accident, which occurred at the Eruku Bridge near Kere Village in the Ewekoro local government area, involved a gold-colour Toyota bus with registration number (LAGOS) GGE 722 KJ.

The public relations officer (PRO) of the Ogun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Odunsi Afolabi, who confirmed the accident, said the ill-fated Toyota Hiace bus somersaulted and fell off the bridge into the abandoned railway line, thereby trapping all the occupants inside, as the doors locked upon impact.

Odunsi, superintendent route commander of the corp, explained that all  11 people on board, who consisted of 10 male adults and a female adult, lost their lives in the crash.

The FRSC spokesperson further explained that preliminary investigations into the probable cause of the crash suggested a “Driving Under the Influence (DUI) and Overloading (OVL)”.

Odunsi further stated that it took the combined efforts of the FRSC rescue team from Itori Unit Command and assistance from the local community to dismantle the vehicle before the bodies of the victims could be recovered and transferred to the State Specialist Hospital Morgue in Ifo.
