12 Nigerian Coaches Earn FIVB Level 1 Badges

Nigeria’s volleyball development has received a major boost after all 12 Nigerian coaches who participated in the FIVB Level 1 Coaching Course in Ghana successfully completed the programme.

The achievement represents a significant step in strengthening the country’s coaching structure, with the newly qualified coaches expected to play an important role in improving player development at grassroots, youth and elite levels.

The successful participants are Dorothy Egbum, who served as Team Leader, Francisca Ikhiede, Lydia Ayisa Yakubu, Anthony Damilola Taiwo, Monday Dada, Friday Peter, Morris Sefeiya Dikyai, Hajara Audu, Bose Melaiye, Bukky Oluwatosin, Sewuese Iorkua and George Samson Malaika.

The FIVB Level 1 qualification equips coaches with internationally recognised foundational knowledge, technical skills and modern coaching methodologies required to develop players and improve performance.

For the Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF), the successful completion of the course provides an opportunity to widen the pool of properly trained coaches available to clubs, schools, state teams and national development programmes.

A larger number of FIVB-trained coaches is also expected to improve the quality and consistency of technical instruction available to young players across the country, while helping to establish a stronger pathway for talent identification and development.

The qualification could further strengthen Nigeria’s coaching pipeline by ensuring that modern training methods and technical approaches are passed down to players at different levels of the sport.

The NVBF expressed delight over the success of the 12 Nigerian participants, viewing the development as another positive milestone for the country’s volleyball family.

The federation is expected to continue promoting opportunities for Nigerian coaches to undergo international training and gain exposure to contemporary coaching techniques, recognising that the development of qualified technical personnel remains critical to the long-term growth of volleyball.

With all 12 participants successfully obtaining their FIVB Level 1 qualification, Nigeria has added another group of trained coaches capable of transferring their knowledge to the next generation of players.

The achievement goes beyond the individual coaches, as it represents another investment in building a stronger technical foundation and raising the standard of volleyball across Nigeria.
