A 12-year old student of Mercy Technical High School, Mbawsi, Abia State, Miss Chioma Favour Akaeme has won the 1st prize in presentation at the Action for Earth-Global Youth Summit held in Singapore.
Akaeme’s presentation was on an affordable solar energy kit with capacity for four electric bulbs and mobile phone charger which was designed and produced by the school.
Speaking after she was presented to newsmen in Umuahia, the state capital, by the principal of the school, the Rev. Sister Lilian Ifeoma Chibiko, Akaeme said she was happy to have made her family, the school, and the country proud.
The Senior Secondary 1 student from Isuikwuato local government area of the state, looking at her future said: “I want to be a professor and global climate activist to create awareness on environmental challenges and the solutions.
According to her, at a point before the presentation began and being the only competitor from Africa, she became worried and discouraged, feeling that the judges might discriminate against her.
“I was left alone. Our principal, who accompanied me to the Summit, has been nominated among the panel of judges. But remembering what I passed through to be there, my confidence was restored.”
