1,200 In Kano Benefit From NASENI’s Phase III Clean Energy Programme

No fewer than 1,200 residents of Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State have benefited from the Phase III of the NASENI Sustainable Empowerment Programme of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure.

The intervention, unveiled in Kabo at the weekend, focused on clean energy solutions, skills development, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihood opportunities in line with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Under the programme, beneficiaries received clean cooking stoves and solar home systems, while support packages comprising a bag of rice and N20,000 cash were also provided to beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Khalil Halilu, said the intervention was designed to take energy transition beyond conferences and make its benefits accessible to households and communities.

Halilu said the clean cooking technology would reduce dependence on traditional fuels, help curb deforestation and contribute to efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change.

“At NASENI, we believe the energy transition must not be something we only discuss at conferences. It must reach our homes, our communities and our people,” he said.

He added that the support package was intended to provide immediate assistance to beneficiary households while creating opportunities for small-scale economic activities and improved livelihoods.

The NASENI boss said the agency was implementing more than 40 intervention programmes across the country, adding that the initiatives were aimed at translating science, technology and engineering into practical solutions to challenges confronting Nigerians.

He urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the items and financial support, stressing that the intervention would help improve household welfare and strengthen economic resilience at the grassroots.

Also speaking, the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin, commended NASENI for introducing homegrown technological solutions to address challenges confronting communities.

Speaking through his representative, Jibrin said access to cleaner and more efficient cooking solutions had significant implications for household welfare, adding that legislators would continue to support initiatives that translated science and technology into practical benefits for Nigerians.
