About 143 out of 1,064 graduating students of Bowen University, Iwo, Osun State, will graduate with First-Class honours during the 20th Convocation of the Ivory Tower.
Speaking at the pre-convocation press briefing held at the university on Wednesday, the vice chancellor, Prof. Jonathan Oyebamiji Babalola, disclosed that the convocation ceremonies would be held on Friday, 31st October and Saturday, 1st of November, 2025.
The vice chancellor further disclosed that 394 students would bag Second Class Honours (Upper Division), 221 students would bag Second Class Honours (Lower Division), 69 would graduate with Third Class Honours, and five would graduate with Pass degrees.
His words: “In programmes such as Physiotherapy and Nursing Science, where degrees are specially classified, 30 students achieved Distinction, 80 students earned Credit, and three students obtained a Pass, successfully meeting the academic standards required for graduation.
“Unclassified Degrees (MB;BS): 66 students from the College of Health Sciences are being awarded the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB;BS) degree, Postgraduate Diplomas, 18 candidates are graduating with Postgraduate Diplomas.”
He disclosed that 26 students were to be conferred with Master’s degrees. Babalola added, “At the same time, nine scholars have earned the Doctor of Philosophy degree, “the highest academic honour of the University, having contributed original research and advanced knowledge in their fields”.
Prof. Babalola noted that 1,064 students graduated at the 20th convocation ceremony, bringing the number of Bowen University alumni to 18,734 since the inaugural convocation in 2006.
He disclosed that the university will confer honorary doctorate degrees on three illustrious Nigerians, including Deacon Wole Abegunde, the immediate past Pro-Chancellor of Bowen University, Dr Adebukola Omotoso Abiola, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Preston Healthcare, USA and Captain Edward Boyo, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Overland Airways and Landover Company Limited.
